From 2020 the HMRC implemented Making Tax Digital (MTD) which requires digital VAT record keeping and returns to be submitted electronically. Currently applicable to businesses with a turnover above the VAT threshold of £85,000 the intention is to roll this out further and eventually do away with paper records.
